Wellington Wheelers Cycling Club

Wellington Wheelers Cycling Club. A social cycling club based in Wellington Somerset for riders of all ages and abilities. We run rides throughout the week as well as Time Trials in the summer and trips to the Newport Velodrome. The social side of the club is also taken very seriously with each ride having a cafe stop, and several events planned through the year including a summer BBQ, an Easter Egg Hunt and the Christmas lunch. For more information please contact us.

New Chairman elected

At the Wellington Wheelers AGM on Tuesday 14th November Clive Hathaway was elected as the new Chairman of the club.

Clive takes over from Matt Bowen who decided to step down after two years in the position.

Many of you will know Clive, who along with his son Thomas, have become valued and much loved members of the club. If you don't know him then you will see him out most Sundays on the rides so please introduce yourself to him and give him any suggestions for taking the club forward.

Congratulations Clive, we look forward to continued success under your stewardship

The Social Secretary position which was vacant has been filled by Julie Brayley and Sue Parker and I am sure they will do a wonderful job together. Our next big social event is the Christmas lunch on December 16th followed by the Mince Pie run on New Years Day.

Wellington Wheelers Hill Climb 2016 - Report and Pictures

"The Wellington Wheelers Cycling Club held its most successful end of season hill climb event on Buckland Hill on 6th Novermber. 59 riders started and all 59 completed this grueling course on a crisp, bright autumn day with blue skies and unbroken sunshine.

The 59 consisted of 6 juniors, 43 men and 10 women. Although the competition for the top spots was fierce, no records were broken this year which was largely attributed to the very cold air. A sizeable number of supporters and spectators gathered to see the first rider off at 10:00 followed by one a minute for more than an hour.

Missing this year was the course record holder Dean Robson, but his position was convincingly challenged by a rising star on the WWCC racing scene, Laurence Douglas-Greene. He came home in 9:13, only 12 seconds from the 9:01 record. First woman was Hannah Newsham in 12 minutes, and Brad Messenger showed most of the seniors how to do it by leading the juniors with a staggering 10:38.

Gathering back in the Village Hall after the race, the organisers thanked David Sheppy (Sheppys Cider)and Ben Turner (Ben Turner Bike Maintenance) for their generous donations of prizes for what was another successful running of this fabulously informal but fiercely fought last race of the season".

Thanks to Spencer Davies for these pictures.
