‘The Race of Truth’ Time Trial Returns

Wellington Wheelers first time trial of the season went ahead on Wednesday 2^nd May and attracted thirteen riders from six different clubs.

After a week of heavy rain, strong wind and flooding, the clouds opened to provide perfect racing conditions, warm and sunny, bringing out a stunning display of riders and equipment.

Dean Robson (Somerset Road Club) showed an early season turn of pace to be admired on an equally stunning red Plenet X high tech bike returning with a time of 22:30. Dean rode extremely well considering this was his first race on this course. He certainly set a hard time to beat.

Home rider Lee Constable WWCC riding his second season with us set an impressive time for the night of 24:18 with Paul Ganicliff SRC+Tri in hot pursuit with 24:30.

A new member to WWCC was Mat Hannon riding his first time trial at Wellington powered in with a very impressive 26:56. Rising star and home rider Richard Nelson WWCC kept his excellent ever improving pace going with another personal best of 26:19. One minute up on the end of last season.

Long distance specialist Pippa Wheeler and fast man Mike Rose joined us from Exeter EWCC for the first time. Pippa braving short distance racing dug deep and recorded fastest lady at 29:56. Mike’s time of 25:56 was certainly impressive considering he was nursing broken ribs and other injuries’ sustained whilst undertaking some impromptu cycle acrobatics a few weeks ago? Other riders times recorded were Ryan Vale SRC 25:18, Jason Gunney DSFR 25:31, Carl Guppy SRC 27:02, Anthony Heaton Jones SRC+Tri 27:03, Andrew Evans ETC 29:25, Alice Rimes WWCC 32:44.

Next race 16^th May 2012, CTT affiliated club riders over 18 year old can race.

Audax

This Sunday is the first of two series of Audaxes put on by the Wellington Wheelers. Details of the four rides are in the Audax section of this site.
If you’re a member of the WWCC and want to get an idea of the route sheets, they are in the password protected area – if you can’t lay your hands on the password, drop me a line using the ‘Contact’ widget. I’m hoping to get some gpx tracks up there fairly soon as well.

Easter Egg Hunt

Don’t forget the Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday (6th April)

Meet at Longforth Road Car Park for 10:00. Ride suitable for families with children., and then back to Ian and Sue’s for Hot Cross Buns!

You’re welcome to just come to the meet afterwards if you’re not into chocolate, in which case probably best not to arrive at the house until after 11:00.

Easter egg hunt: Friday 6th April.

Hi all,
Just a little bit more information about the Easter egg hunt – so no one’s left feeling confused.
Ian and I will be organising the egg hunt (starting at 10am, meet in Longforth road carpark). This will be a typical hunt (on bicycles) with clues sending you from place to place, to finish at our house in Langford Budville. Teams welcome, and this will be very much a social ride, suitable for families and children to enjoy.
For anyone who just fancies a social, you are more than welcome to head on to our house for tea and cake, before the cyclists return, when we can then all have a light lunch together. (Please arrive after 11am).
We will be putting on refreshments, but if you are able to, we would always welcome more cakes and savoury dishes (quiches, tarts, cheese scones ect.). Please let us know in advance if you’re bringing food, so we don’t over do it!
It would also be really helpful if you could RSVP by Saturday 31st March, if you’d like to join us, so we can have a rough idea of numbers.

Wellington ’10′ Time Trial is back for 2012

This 10 mile Time Trial between Wellington and Taunton was hugely popular last year and is making a welcome come-back on 2nd May. To make things a little clearer, the race will be run once a fortnight throughout the summer in a series of nine events.

First rider is off at 19:15

Childline 25th Anniversary Ride

Hi, I wonder if you would be kind enough to tell your
members of our sponsored 25 mile ride, which is to celebrate 25 years of
Childline. The event is taking place on Sunday 4th march 2012 at 10.30am.
We have a nominal entry fee of £5 which will include soup and a roll at
the end, plus we ask for as much sponsorship as you can muster. The
start/finish will be at Sampford Arundel village hall near Wellington
Somerset, TA21 9QN
